Cline Ancient Vine Zinfandel The 2008 Ancient Vines Zinfandel shows wonderful, fat strawberry, with coffee and chocolate characters (winemakesr’s comment). About 25% of this Zin comes from our oldest, most historic and shyest-bearing Zinfandel blocks in Oakley, Contra Costa County. Grapes were planted by Italian and Portuguese immigrants in the sandy, phylloxera-resistant soils more than 100 yeasrs ago. This wine was fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks, then racked gently before being laid down to a complement of American oak cooperage for 7 months. Ripe fruit and soft tannis make this mouth-coating rich vintage a nice compliment to pasta dishes with light tomato sauce or grilled meats.
